Either Camp Seeley soldiers are more disdainful of an Imperial Valley summer than the most grizzled desert rat, or they go in for long distance buying.
At any rate, try and figure this one out on your Chinese puzzle:
The camp's post-exchange sells more woolen sweaters than does the exchange located in a cooler climate at Lake Morena!
A bulletin from the camp Wednesday disclosed this strange situation as well as explained that because of the heat only hard candy may be kept at Camp Seeley's exchange.
"Lather dries as fast as it can be applied," the bulletin said.
More than 2,000 items are stocked at the camp exchange, ranging from peanuts to radios. Most in demand is tobacco, followed by cool drinks. Candy is popular and also, oddly enough, is shoe polish! The month coupon books are issued, as well as theater ticket books, which may be paid for out of the following month's wages.
The soldiers receive a special rate of ten theater passes for $1.14.
The exchange was described as stocks include strictly feminine items, watches and powder cases, that may be purchased as gifts for relatives.
added, incidentally, and during afternoon siesta the benches in its palm patio are filled with soldiers relaxing over soda pop, beer or ice cream, or writing cool home. Being without funds offers no obstacle. Several times each
