MARTINSBURG, March 8.
Judge Chase's Answer.--No apology can be necessary for devoting a large portion of our paper to the publication of this masterly document, so that the whole may be completed with all convenient dispatch.
It has been through the press that the malignity of his accusers has sought to assail the character of that great man; and the public mind was to be prepared for his destruction by that huge mass of ex parte statement, factious detraction and wanton obloquy, which under the names of Articles and Depositions was ushered into the world in a manner so unprecedented at the last session of Congress. It is therefore highly important to Judge Chase, that his justification should not merely stand on the records of the country as a lasting monument to his own honor, the disgrace of his persecutors, the wickedness of the times and for the benefit of posterity,-- but that it should be circulated through every incorrupt channel, and read by all ranks and classes of people.
