MARYSVILLE, we understand, is contemplating the building of a branch railroad up the Cedar valley to that place if the Q. & St. P. railroad should be extended in this direction from Albia. It is thought they may secure such a branch by giving to the company an interest, by lease or otherwise, in their immense coal wealth. Mr. H. S. Knight, a Director in the A. K. & D. Company, was at Albia last week in company with our committee, and had a conference upon the subject with Mr. Buell. The latter, it is said, regarded the proposition with favor, as he is very desirous of reaching the Marion county coal fields. There is no more enterprising community in this county than that of Marysville and vicinity; and this enterprise is well and worthily represented in our company by Mr. Knight, who will spare no energy in effort to help his town by securing a railroad. He and the Marysville people generally fully appreciate their need of a railroad, and realize that they must have it in order to develop the rich resources which nature has lavished upon them in the form of coal. It is very unfortunate for them that they cannot easily be reached by a direct line from Albia to this place, in consequence of the heavy grades that would be required. A line parallel with the valley in which they are situated appears to be their only hope. They deserve a road, however, no less than they need it, and we confidently anticipate that if they will bid as liberally for it as they seem disposed to do, they will ere long rejoice in the fulfillment of their cherished hope.
