The Journal of Commerce states, on the authority of letters received at Boston, that a revival of religion was in progress in the Sandwich Islands at the latest date, and the King is named among the hopeful converts.

The Sandwich Islands. Rev. Mr. Atkinson, who has been recently sent to Oregon as a missionary under the patronage of the American Home Missionary Society, in his voyage thither, stopped a few days at the Sandwich Islands. He gives his impressions of the Islands as follows:

I am happily disappointed in respect to the state of things here. It is true, on the dock many natives are idle and illy clad, some without pants. But at church and wherever I met the better class, I am gratified at the intelligence and propriety of conduct which they exhibit. I was prepared to see more of heathenism. But at church they were properly though not tastefully attired. A thousand or more listened attentively to the fervent preaching of Rev. Mr. Armstrong. Some took notes. The choir sang as well as any in New England. It was led by Judge Andrews. The King and Queen, the Premier, and his wife and the young chiefs, occupied prominent pews near the wall, to the right of the minister. The galleries were occupied by the natives all seated as below on proper seats. The Sabbath schools and Bible classes attended between the morning and afternoon service. The natives have a prayer meeting every morning at five o'clock, continuing till daylight. The pastors are holding a kind of protracted meeting with them in different districts. I attended one with Mr. S.-. It was gratifying to notice their attention and their fervency in prayer.

There seems to be a revival among them.
