Nkrumah Puts Gold Coast Ahead Financially
GOLD COAST, Africa, Aug. 10 - Positive refutation of the ideology that black men have limited capacities to handle governments, come last week in the Gold Coast financial report of Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah who has been at the regions now for a full year. The report revealed that receipts of revenue collections amounted to more than $115,000,000, while expenditures were held at $100,000,000, leaving the Gold Coast government with a $15,000,000 surplus for the fiscal year ending March 31. In the prime minister's favor, also, excellent financial control was shown in the report to the fact that while expenditures exceeded the estimated budget by some $70,000, income in excess of the original estimates accounted for the $115,000,000. The strong financial position of the government shows an excess of assets over liabilities of $50,000,000. Last week Rep. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr., said while in Accra that the Gold Coast colony is showing the rest of Africa the way toward self-government. He told newspaper men that the Gold Coast leaders have "done a great job.". Roosevelt arrived here as guest of the British government, Sir Charles N. Arden-Clarke.
