New York, March 1.—(AP).—Beniamino Gigli, tenor with the Metropolitan Opera Company, announced late today through his manager that he would sing in Detroit May 6. Gigli cancelled a concert Feb. 22 and left the city hurriedly, after he said that a warning had been received that enemies would cut his "canary throat."
Gigli's decision to return to Detroit followed a number of conferences between his manager and Mrs. Isabel Hurst, who arranged the previous concert, and who comes to New York to persuade him to hold it at another date.
Gigli has said that although the cancellation cost him "a lot of money," he never would go back.
Plans for his reappearance, as announced by Mrs. Hurst, include his reception in Cleveland, O., May 5, by the mayor of Detroit and a committee which will accompany him to the latter city.
Gigli will make his last appearance of the season with the Metropolitan company at Cleveland, May 4.
