On Sunday Morning, at half an Hour after Five, Mr. Burgess, of East Ham in Essex, started his grey Horse (which beat the Hounslow Baker's Horse lately on Hounslow Heath, and almost broke that Town,) to run from Whitechapel Church to Romford Turnpike in 30 Minutes, for 100 l. which he perform'd so near the Time, that 'tis undetermined whether he won or lost: the Ground measures 11 Miles and Half, and 264 Yards. 'Twas remarkable, that the same Persons as laid he did not perform it in 20 Minutes, would have laid Odds that he did it in 31.
