Home Guards Are

"Tramp, tramp, tramp, the boys
are marching.
If Kaiser Bill could have peeped
over into the city last night and seen
the determined faces, the vim, vigor
and vitality that
was shown, the
quickness and snap when they were
marching around the city, he would
wonder what had become of his
God." For the home guards had
their first meeting and got a taste of
the real military life. It's true their
chances are vague of ever having the
pleasure of getting "over there," but
they show the same spirit as those
that have been chosen to represent
the greatest bunch of fighting men
that the world has ever produced.
Last night at the armory the men
were assigned to their respective companies and officers were chosen, but
as these names are to be acted upon
before they receive their commissions
their names will be given out later.
A battalion was formed consisting of
four companies of twenty-eight men
and officers, and each company had
its required quota. Maj. C. M. Barber
in command of the local battalion has
named his captains: Capt. Mike Nash
of company "E," Capt. M. R. Johnston
of company "F," Capt. J. T. McLaughlin
of company "G," and Capt. Fred
Clayton of company "H." Two first
and second lieutenants as well as four
"non-coms" for each company will be
appointed later.
The drill sergeants had their men
out last night explaining the different
commands and their execution and it
is hoped that they will soon be supplied
with a full battalion equipment
so the citizens of the city can see
what is being done at home to help
win the war. The home guards are
a bunch of men that we welcome.
P. S.--For Hindenburg's information:
Ernest Landolfi was the "hep"
sergeant.
