NORMAL COLLEGE OPENS.
Brilliant Prospects for North Carolina's Great Female Institution.

Greensboro, N. C., Sept. 19.—Out of the 460 young women enrolled as students of the State Normal and Industrial college, 450 were present this morning at the formal opening exercises. This shows remarkable business like management in the president or business intention in the students, or both.

Another striking fact is that of the ten absent, all had written by last night that they could not be present, either from personal or family sickness.

It was inspiring scene this morning to witness the array of bright earnest faces of these noble daughters gathered from all corners, even crevices, of the state, and to hear the opening and initial remarks of the earnest, able and devoted president. After an hour's informal initiatory and preparatory exercises made sacred by the invocation of the chaplain and the singing of America, the great crowd broke, and the ceremony of registration, classification of new students, arrangement of programmes by old students, etc., was had. The regular examinations for classes begun at two o'clock, and will occupy the balance of the week. To tell of the many interesting and valuable points learned this morning would require a special article, except to say the highest number ever present at an opening before was 392, and that more than 20 applicants have been denied entrance into this great institution for the coming year's work for the lack of sufficient dormitory and boarding house accommodations.
