On Friday night last, (says the New-York Daily Gazette) the wind being from the N. W. a violent hurricane arose, which occasioned so high a swell in the North-River, as to force several lengths of the fence, lately erected on the west side of the battery, entirely from their places; the wind at the same time laid level with the ground, upwards of 180 feet of the beautiful new fence on the east side of the aforesaid place. razed several trees, &c.

The new ship Augusta, which lay in the stream, and bound for Charleston, parted her cables in the above storm, and was driven on shore at Long-Island.
