Full Text

We see by taking of the Ships bound to Louisbourg with Stores, how early the French are in their Preparations for North-America. It is therefore hoped we shall take Example by them, and be there as early as the Season will permit ; for from our being too late, most of our Expeditions have failed.

We are now informed, by the Authority of Gen. Shirley himself, that the Loss of Oswego was owing to a Jobb ; and that the Troops designed for its Defence were delayed because they would not take their Provisions from the old Contractor.

Besides what Forces the French have at Cape Breton, they have now about 8000 Regulars and Canadians in Arms in America, exclusive of Indians; who are very numerous, and continually increasing.

It is therefore absolutely necessary to rebuild the Fort of Oswego, without which no lasting Peace can be established, nor any Trade carried on with Safety with the Indians.
