Full Text
We are now informed, by the Authority of Gen. Shirley himself, that the Loss of Oswego was owing to a Jobb ; and that the Troops designed for its Defence were delayed because they would not take their Provisions from the old Contractor.
Besides what Forces the French have at Cape Breton, they have now about 8000 Regulars and Canadians in Arms in America, exclusive of Indians; who are very numerous, and continually increasing.
It is therefore absolutely necessary to rebuild the Fort of Oswego, without which no lasting Peace can be established, nor any Trade carried on with Safety with the Indians.
