Life of Mr. Clay.-Mr. Prentice, lately editor of the New-England Weekly Review, is now in Kentucky writing the life Henry Clay. Before leaving his editorial chair, he distinctly stated the object of his journey. As a free citizen, it is his undoubted right to employ his talents in this manner. Since his departure, the Administration papers have made a concerted attempt to destroy in advance the character of his book, and to depreciate the talents and vilify the character of its author. Their complete failure in this attempt may be confidently anticipated. The life of Mr. Clay will be written, and written well. The subject is rich with materials, and the talents and industry of the biographer are worthy of the subject. The literary efforts of Mr. Prentice in the Review and elsewhere, have given him a proud station among the literary men of our country. The judgment of the public has passed upon his genius, and its too late to arrest it. With every attainable advantage in respect to the sources of information, with an honest purpose, and an ardent zeal, he is diligently and fearlessly executing the task he has designed. His numerous personal and political friends in New England are anxiously watching his progress, and confidently predicting his success. The consciousness of their sympathies will lighten his toil, and encourage him to persevere and surmount all obstacles. In the course of a few months, the American public will be presented with a frank and free and true history of the life, and delineation of the character, of our greatest Statesman and most eloquent Orator.-Pittsfield Argus.
