House Committee Backs President.

WASHINGTON, April 16. Unanimous indorsement of the President's action in sending the Atlantic fleet to Tampico was given by the House Foreign Affairs Committee at its special meeting to-day.

The committee adopted the following resolution offered by Chairman Flood:

Resolved, That the action of the President of the United States in the Tampico incident is sustained by the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives.

Committee members were behind closed doors for more than an hour in a secret discussion of the Mexican situation and no attempt was made to minimize the gravity of that situation. It is understood that the committee is ready to report at any time upon the request of the President a resolution authorizing the blockade of the ports of Tampico and Vera Cruz.

Following the meeting Chairman Flood said the approval of congress for a blockade was not absolutely essential, but as he believes that the President would ask for Congressional sanction in the event such steps became necessary.

It was stated by members representing the three House parties that no partisan affiliations figured in to-day's meeting of the committee and that Democrats, Republicans and Progressives were unanimous in their approval of the decisive step taken by the Administration to compel respect for the American flag.

The sentiment was expressed in the committee that having gone this far, the United States cannot back down if Huerta declines to accede to the American demands and that the Administration must enforce those demands by whatever means it may deem necessary.
