WPA Projects Over, Men Ask Direct Relief

40 MEN LAID OFF AS SOUTH COUNTY JOBS ARE COMPLETED

That direct relief rolls in Redwood county will lengthen for the duration of the winter was almost certain this week as men on two recently closed WPA projects applied for county aid.

Approximately 40 men have been laid off public works in the last two weeks. The dam on the Cottonwood river at Lamberton and the rip-rap project on highways north of Walnut Grove have been completed.

The outlook for new projects, particularly in those sections, is pessimistic. PWA projects like the Morgan library and school and the Lamberton village hall may absorb some WPA workers, it is hoped.

Twelve WPA workers applied for direct relief Monday.
