LOST IN THE WOODS.
A Prisoner Makes Good His Escape From Constable Berry.
For the past several days the constables have been searching the county for one Richard Chinn, colored, who is wanted for stealing a lot of carpenter tools. Yesterday morning Constable Berry found his man at the residence of V. T. Chilton where he was employed on the latter's farm. The constable experienced no difficulty in placing his man under arrest, and thinking his prisoner of a placid nature accepted Mr. Chilton's invitation to dine, leaving Chinn in charge of the host. While partaking of the sumptuous repast the prisoner in some manner succeeded in freeing himself from Mr. Chilton and struck into the woods at a full rate of speed pursued by Chilton for a short distance, when he became aware of his leg's inactivity and he returned to notify the constable of what had happened. At last accounts Mr. Berry was searching the woods for his man but up to the hour of going to press had not found any trace of his whereabouts.
