Paris, Sept. 30.--A long distance balloon race for the grand prize of the Aero club of France was started from the Tuileries gardens Sunday under unfavorable weather conditions. A drizzling rain was falling and the wind came out of the southeast, which will take the balloons toward the English coast and destroy the chances of a record unless it shifts.
The race lacks the international character of that of last year for the James Gordon Bennett cup, only France, Germany, and Belgium being represented, the Italian entrant withdrawing at the last minute.
Only veteran aeronauts are participating in the race among them being Count Saint-Victor, Count Douitremont who was a companion of Count De la Vaulx in his long distance voyages and Leon Barthou head of a department of the ministry of public works.
