WASHINGTON CITY
FRIDAY, JUNE 14

At a meeting of Citizens West of 6th
street West, held at the Theatre, agreeable to public advertisement.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12.
JOSEPH STRETCH was called to
the chair, and Thomas Carpenter
was appointed Secretary.

Resolved, That if any of the judges
of the late election are present, they be
requested to give information of the pro-
ceedings respecting the said election, so
far as came to their knowledge.

Some of the associate judges being
present, information was accordingly
given.

The following resolutions were passed
unanimously:

Resolved, That it appears to this
meeting that the judges of the
late election for City Council, not having
given due notice thereof agreeably to the
provision of the Act of Incorporation,
the said election is thereby rendered null
and void.

Resolved, That the return of said
election, not having been signed by the
judges thereof, or a majority of them,
is of course illegal and contrary to the
letter and spirit of the act of incorpora-
tion.

Resolved. That the admission of per-
sons to vote at said election who had not
paid taxes in the year preceding the
election being held, is directly contrary to the second section of the Act of
Incorporation.

Resolved. That any attempt to de-
prive any part of the city of its due pro-
portion of representation in the City
Council, deserves the severest reprehension of every friend to the general pro-
perity of this metropolis.

Resolved. That a Committee be ap-
pointed, whose duty it shall be to report
the proceedings of this meeting to the
members returned as City Council at their
next meeting; and who may call another
meeting of the citizens West of 6th street
West on the same subject, if it shall be
by them deemed expedient, or otherwise
act therein, so as to procure the Western
part of the city a due representation in
the Council thereof.

Ordered, That the said committee con-
sist of five.
Nicholas King, John Sessford, Joseph
Mechlin. James Hoban and Peter Lenox
were appointed.

Ordered, That the above proceedings
be published in the next number of the
National Intelligencer.
