Full Text
The Republican state and district conventions will all be finished next week and nominations announced. Then will come the county convention for the nomination of county offices. This will probably be held about the last of September. Candidates have already commenced to make their announcements, and we sincerely hope that all will make their political ambitions this fall "subject to the decision of the county convention" and abide faithfully by that decision. There are always more candidates than offices and it is inevitable that some must be disappointed. But we dislike exceedingly to hear any talk about running independent or bolting the decisions of the convention. Such attempts are rarely successful and always tend to the utter demoralization of the party. So far as any of the present officers of the county are concerned, certainly they have been very generously treated and they ought to be satisfied at the deliberate decisions of the party, no matter what it is, and ought to strive for the success of the nominees with all the energy they have ever shown. There is no room for strife in this campaign. The convention should be allowed to settle finally who are to be the nominees of the party and its action should be accepted as final by all Republicans. Only in the division of our forces will the other parties hope for any success in this county. In union there is party strength.
