The Game Bird Crows
It Is His Time, So Let Him Do So.
His Reason For Crowing is That His County, District and State Has Gone Democratic.
A DEMOCRATIC LANDSLIDE.
Let the game bird crow. It's his time.
It was a land slide and the slide came our way.
It seems that as Lincoln went, so went the country.
"Praise the Lord," as good old Bro. Barnes would say.
The 6th district went democratic by a majority of 2,915.
Gov. Beckham's majority is certainly 25,000 and may reach 30,000.
It was a glorious day for democracy and everything seems to have been on that side.
Crab Orchard is entitled to the blue ribbon. The democrats of the East End know how to do things right.
Mercer's 351 majority is good, but it might have been better. We were figuring on 500 for that good county.
Not even the most sanguine democrats believed Mr. McRoberts would be so badly turned down in his own county.
Judge Bell and Commonwealth's Attorney Hardin we salute you and congratulate you and are glad to say we'll see more of you.
Hill Spalding, who turned republican after he went to Louisville a year or so ago, was defeated for Representative, we are glad to say.
Mr. Alverson carried the four Stanford precincts 252, Crab Orchard, 206, Hustonville, 286, Waynesburg, 116, Highland, 35, Kingsville, 69.
Bless old Garrard. She did herself proud. Like Lincoln, she is no longer a doubtful county. Three cheers for the gallant democrats over there.
"Not as deep as a well nor as wide as a church door, but the majority will suffice," said Mr. R. R. Gentry as the good portion of the returns came in.
Balknap, the great business man, has returned to his business a poorer, but wiser man. His firm just couldn't spare him for four years and the people showed their mercy.
The unofficial majorities in Lincoln are Beckham, 235, Bell 175 and Alverson, 944. The court-house proposition was overwhelmingly defeated. The official vote will appear next issue.
Prohibitionists are all right, but it seems that Lincoln county does not want one at this time. Mr. Alverson's majority over Mr. Carpenter is 944 and his majority at Mr. Carpenter's precinct, where the latter only got 26 votes, was 135.
As chairman of the campaign committee, John Sam Owsley, Jr., did magnificent work. He kept in touch with what was going on in his own party as well as what the republicans were doing. The selection of him as chairman was a wise one and the victory he and his associates won was great.
So many good workers are due the credit of Lincoln county's going democratic that our space forbids mention of them all. The managers of the campaign, Hons. R. C. Warren and J. S. Owsley, Jr., and their lieutenants, Messrs. James F. Holden, W. E. Persons, Josh Wilson, George D. Weatherford, S. M. Owens, J. C. Lynn, Harvey Helm, W. S. Burch, M. S. Baughman, J. T. Embry, A. C. Dunn, W. I. Herrin, J. M. Alverson, Dink Farmer, W. O. Speed, Geo. Carter, Baker Walls and others, are deserving of much congratulation for their splendid efforts.
They were untiring in their efforts to wrench the county from the enemy and right well did they succeed. They certainly took Lincoln out of the doubtful column and that she will remain out, we have no doubt. It took good, hard work to do it, but there were willing heads and hands to carry on the work, which was done to perfection.
