COLORADO WILD FLOWERS.
Oh, voiceless hearts from snow-crowned homes,
Where Beauty lives in grandeur true!
The tumbling torrent's trembling tones,
The silver fir-tree's whispered moans,
And mountain echoes speak for you.
Come columbines in purple rare;
Come painted-cups from sunlit crest;
Come violets sweet, primroses fair,
With tender ferns and maiden-hair,
From off the mountain's rocky breast.
Bring the gilia's morning dew,
In crimson throat and star blown eyes;
Bring Mariposa's lilies' hue,
The golden-rod, the gentian blue,
With fringes borrowed from the skies.
Voiceless flowers? Nay; never dumb
Are beauty's lips. On torrent's roar
And cloud-clad peaks their echoes thrum:
From thy fond heart their echoes come,
And sweet Love speaks forevermore.
