LONDON, JUNE 16.
Under the head of Bruges, we find the copy of a circular letter, addressed by the Governor of the province to the Mayors and Burgomasters within his jurisdiction, stating that many evils had resulted from the frequency of religious processions, and that, from the indecorum with which they were conducted, much scandal had befallen religion; that the King of the Netherlands was therefore desirous of having them limited to two within the year, the first being on the festival of Corpus Christi, and the other on whatever day the Bishops of the Netherlands might think fit to appoint; that the Chapter of Ghent being invited, by his Majesty's orders, to appoint a day, and having refused to obey them, the procession of the Holy Sacrament is the only one which will in future be permitted, and the authorities are commanded to enforce the observance of his Majesty's wishes.
