WASHINGTON, D. C. The American Veterans Committee criticized the President's Committee on Government Employment Policy in letters to members of the Committee by National Chairman Mickey Levine.
The AVC Chairman intimated that a Committee release of October 24 lauding progress in the Government employment of white collar Negroes in the Atlanta, Ga. area was "political." He said, "I refrained from replying to it (the Oct. 24 release) earlier lest any remarks made by AVC be considered 'political' since your release itself seemed to be published at a time rather close to the date of the National election.
A 1960 Audit of Negro Veterans and Servicemen by the veterans organization surveyed the VA Hospital, the VA regional office, and 2 defense bases in the Atlanta area and found no Negro doctors, dentists, social workers, administrators or even office help employed, according to Levine.
The AVC Chairman also said that protests to the Defense Department have been unanswered and the Veterans Administrator replied in pious platitudes."
