CHURCH OF ENGLAND DISPUTE HEIGHTENED BY ROME REPORT
By United Press Leased Wire
LONDON, Jan. 19.—The tense controversy already existing in the Church of England—mainly over rapprochement with the Roman Catholic church and ritualistic forms of worship had become more acute today through publication of a report of negotiations between representatives of the "high church" faction of the Church of England and high Catholic churchmen.

Conferences between the two groups, in an attempt to heal the breach of four hundred years between the two churches, were held intermittently between 1921 and 1925 at Malines, see of the late Cardinal Mercier. A report on the negotiations has been kept secret for five years.

Only the Anglican agreements were made public. This was out of deference to the wishes of the late Cardinal Mercier, under whose auspices the conferences were held.

In an appendix, Cardinal Mercier doubted the wisdom to publication of the disputable points brought up at the conference.

“In my humble opinion, it would be inopportune to publish any statement of disputable points,'' Cardinal Mercier wrote to the Archbishop of Canterbury on October 25, 1925.

Two of the major points that the Anglicans agreed to during the course of the conversations were:

1—That the Anglo-Catholics had acknowledged the primacy and responsibility of the Pope.

2—That "in communion the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ are verily given, taken and received by the faithful. By consecration the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ."
