Radio Poll indicates
'best' programs aired

Insiders like Dragnet, News, The Lone Ranger, and Groucho it was learned last week when the results of the radio poll taken here early this year were tabulated.

Education Supervisor J. I. Meffert and his clerks worked overtime to prepare a report on the likes and don't-likes of inside listeners.

Local news programs were the most consistent vote catchers Mr. Meffert said. It appears that almost everyone listen to Cedric Adams at noon and in the evenings at 10:00 o'clock, and keeps tuned for Halsey Hall, who follows on the same station.

WCCO's As You Like It on Monday nights, with Bob DeHaven, rated tops as a local variety show, competing successfully with two network shows on the air at the same time.

Surprising development was that Saturday programs, usually considered the doldrums in radio programming, received the most votes. Favorites on Saturday were Gunsmoke, Juke Box Jury, Bob Hope, Saturday Night Country Style, City Hospital, Suspense, Whoopee John, The Lone Ranger, and, of course, Cedric Adams and Halsey Hall.

Generally, insiders prefer dramatic programs and live talent shows. Some top audience-participation were tops in their time-belts.

The Cavalcade of Sports program rated high on Friday nights and the other boxing program on Wednesday nights also took a big vote. Other sports events, while not rated top in any particular time area drew good votes.

"Most men paid pretty close attention to what they were voting for," Mr. Meffert said, "They seemed to know exactly what they wanted."
