U. S. EXPENSES ARE GROWING

Congress Last Year Appropriated the
Sum of $1,116,118,138—Appropriations Exceed Revenue.

Washington.—Congress appropriated
at its last session $1,116,118,138 for
the current fiscal year against $1,095,
675,755 for the last fiscal year, according
to the final computation announced
by the appropriations committees of
congress. In addition contracts were
authorized, subject to future appropriations,
aggregating $40,333,000 and
including $600,000 for fortifications,
$38,350,000 for the navy, $810,000 under
the sundry civil act and $573,000
for public buildings.

The total actual appropriations exceeded
the total estimated revenue for
the current fiscal year, the revenues
estimated being $1,035,000,000.
