From the Boston Gazette of yesterday

The body of Thomas Butler, who stole the money belonging to Gilbert & Sons from the Marlboro' Hotel, was brought to this city last evening in a wagon from Wilton, N. H. in which town he committed suicide yesterday morning between five and six o'clock, by cutting his throat with a razor. We understand that while the stage was stopping at the post office in Wilton, Butler, divesting himself of his cloak, suddenly jumped out and ran into a field near by, where he was in a short time retaken, with his throat so effectually cut—the razor having passed through the jugular—that he died in about twenty minutes. His body was brought to the city by the persons who arrested him in Brattleboro', and deposited in a stable in the rear of Thompson's tavern in Elm-street, where a coroner's inquest was held between 9 and 10 o'clock last evening. Butler, it is said, behaved so well on his way from Brattleboro', making a full confession of his guilt and expressing a deep contrition therefor, that the persons who had charge of him were induced to unbind his arms and give them free scope. He was apprehensive that he should be hanged for the crime of which he had been guilty—frequently conversed upon the subject, and it was this feeling, as is believed, which led him to commit suicide. Butler was a native of England. We hear that Messrs. Gilbert & Sons have recovered the whole of the Money stolen, except about fifty dollars.
