Hinckley News.—An oil stove explosion threatened for a time to burn the Coffin Hotel Wednesday evening.
The fire alarm was turned in about six o'clock and the fire department responded promptly and soon had the fire under control with no considerable damage.
Mrs. A. R. Delbridge was cooking supper on the oil stove in the kitchen when it exploded. She ran into the lobby with her hair ablaze, which was soon smothered out by Dr. Delbridge. The doctor then ran into the burning kitchen and his face was rather badly burned. The doctor and Miss Lena Rappe, who is employed there, then attempted to put out the fire with snow and it was undoubtedly their work that kept the fire within bounds for a time.
When the firemen arrived the paper on the walls, the door sills, and the linoleum on the floor were all blazing, but were quickly put out when the hose were turned on them.
The building is of brick construction, but it was only quick work that kept the interior from being destroyed. Mrs. Delbridge was also burned on the arms to some extent and the doctor will have a painful face for some time.
