Kingsport, East Tenn., Nov. 25th, 1865.
Mr. Editor: What would you think of a Union man that would bring a rebel guard to arrest you after you had served three years in the Union army? Would you not think it poor consolation to a discharged soldier? There was a Constable in this district, come with the worst rebs of our country, and arrested Mr. Job. Powell, one of the best Union men in our country, and took him to jail. Mr. James Neel done this, a pretended Union man, after he had made Niter for the Confederate States two years, and brought George Bear, one of the worst rebels in the country, and arrested Job Powell, a true man, that has been fighting for his country. This Mr. George Bear, came to my house while I was in the Federal army and cursed my mother, threatened to shoot her, or to send her through the lines to her d-d Yankee son. There was two of the meanest rebels of our country shot yesterday. These difficulties which they get into, are brought about by their own conduct.
M. L. HELTON.
