HOUSTON, Tex., Aug. 11—(AP)—Take it from Elmer Dean, brother of Dizzy and Paul Dean, the mainstays of the St. Louis Cardinal hurling corps, the big show ain't what it's cracked up to be.
Elmer was back at Buffalo Stadium tonight, doing a land office business after his flying trip to St. Louis.
The Cardinals, believing Elmer would be quite a drawing card of peanuts and soda pop at Sportsman's Park, drafted the lanky Arkansan. Elmer left for the big city, set to follow Dizzy and Paul to riches at St. Louis, but something went wrong.
Elmer just didn't like the looks of St. Louis, and then, too, he had his customers to consider at Buff Stadium, so after his arrival in the Missouri town, he gave it the once over, hopped the next rambler for Texas and waved good bye to Dizzy and Paul.
Because of the rushing business at the stadium tonight, he had little time to discuss his failure to make the grade in the majors. Except to comment that the majors may mean a lot to two of the Dean boys, but St. Louis means nothing to Elmer, the peanut peddler.
