NEW YORK--The Board of Directors of New York Central Railroad Co. has announced the resignation of Gustav Metzman as president of the road, effective Aug. 1, 1952. Mr. Metzman will then assume the position of chairman of the Board of Directors, and on the same date William White, now president of Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Co. will succeed to the presidency of the New York Central.
Mr. Metzman, under New York Central's retirement policy, will retire as an officer on Dec. 31, 1952, by reason of age. He will continue to serve thereafter as a director and in an advisory capacity.
Mr. White has been president and chief executive officer of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Co. since 1941. He is 55 years of age and has had broad experience in railroad affairs and is well-known in the railroad world. Prior to becoming president of the Lackawanna, Mr. White was vice-president and general manager of Virginian Railway Co. Previous to that he was connected with the Erie Railroad Company for 25 years.
During his entire business career, starting in 1913, he has been continuously associated with the railroad industry.
Vice-President P. M. Shoemaker, of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Co., will succeed to the presidency of that company.
