Preparations for the Farragut Funeral.

PORTSMOUTH, N. H., August 17.

Arrangements for the funeral of the late Admiral Farragut, which takes place here to-morrow, are all completed. Lieutenant Commander A. F. Crossman and A. R. Yates, U. S. A. are charged with the direction of the affairs. The funeral cortege will leave the residence of Commodore Pennock, commandant at this naval station, at 11 A. M., accompanied by an escort of U. S. Marines and be brought to this city by the U. S. steamer Speedwell where it will be met by a large procession consisting of the Masonic and other civic bodies of Portsmouth and neighboring cities. A procession will then march through the principal streets to St. John's Episcopal Church, where religious services will be held. The remains will then be deposited in a tomb with the usual religious ceremonies and Masonic honors, where they will remain until the United States government shall make final disposition of them.

A large number of distinguished officers of the army and navy will be present; it is also expected that the Senators and members of Congress, with the Governors of Maine and New Hampshire will be here. All business will be suspended and the city draped in mourning.

The attendance will be large, there being about five thousand visitors at least in and about this city, most of whom will be present.

Funeral of Admiral Farragut.

The Funeral of Admiral Farragut to-day was attended by a larger concourse of people than ever before assembled in this State on a similar occasion.

The cortege left the Navy Yard at half past eleven o'clock, escorted by the marine corps of the steamer Charlestown and a detachment of United States troops, and was brought to this city by the U. S. steamer Speedwell. The remains were enclosed in an elegant metallic coffin, beautifully laden with flowers, borne on bier from the steamer by ten seamen of the Vandalia and placed in the hearse which then took its place in the procession. The pall-bearers were Rear Admiral Thatcher, Commodores Steadman and Rudge, Captains Parrott and Wild, Commodore Porter, Paymaster Watson, Chief Engineer Moore, Colonel McCauley of the Marine Corps and Generals McDowell and Foster. Among the mourners were Mrs. Farragut and son, ex-Secretaries Welles and Fox, Senators Cragin, Patterson and Wilson, and Gen. Banks. The procession was nearly a mile long, embracing all classes of people; and public buildings, most places of business and many private residences were draped in mourning. Bells tolled, minute guns were fired, business was suspended. Dense crowds filled the streets along the route. St. Johns Episcopal Church, in which service was held, was appropriately draped. Religious services were conducted by Rev. K. W. Clark, the resident minister, assisted by Revs. Dr. Montgomery, of New York, the Admiral's pastor. The remains, subsequently, with religious and Masonic rites, were placed in the tomb near the church. A volley was fired by the military, and the immense concourse of people who had assembled left the scene.
