Fishers Separate
But Debbie Says
Don't Blame Eddie

HOLLYWOOD, (AP) - Debbie Reynolds today blamed her separation from Eddie Fisher on his New York night club dating with Elizabeth Taylor.
But she declared in a news conference at her front door: "I'm still in love with my husband."
Miss Taylor, who with her late husband, Showman Mike Todd, was supposed to have been a close friend of the Fishers, said: "I don't feel that I've taken Eddie away from Debbie - because they weren't getting along, anyway."
Published accounts quoted Miss Taylor, 26, as saying: "Eddie is not in love with Debbie and never has been."
To which Miss Reynolds retorted: "We were never happier than we have been in the last year."
The formal separation of Debbie, 26, and Eddie, 30, was announced Wednesday night. Eddie went to the home of a friend, Miss Reynolds stayed at home with their two children.
She came to the door, wearing a robe and pin curlers, and told newsmen: "This separation is the result of what happened in New York and the stories that originated there. As to your questions as to whether Miss Taylor had anything to do with this separation, I'm unable to answer at this time.
"Do I consider Liz Taylor a good friend? Liz never was a good friend. I would only say a friend. Eddie and I both knew her through Mike Todd.
"The separation definitely was not my idea. I love Eddie and I always have loved him. I hope this separation will iron out the difficulties and we can get together and be happy. Don't blame Eddie."
