Sweden has declared War against England, and sequestered Colonial Produce.
LONDON, December 5.
Sweden has adopted the continental system, and declared war against Britain at the demand of the French, who have also required the immediate confiscation of all British property and colonial produce. It is said the Swedish government answered, that they would search after colonial produce imported since April 24. and that it would proceed according to the laws of the country, against such as had come from England. Most of the English property had been re-embarked. The situation of Sweden is such, its hostility will hardly excite any spirit of retaliation or resentment.
Stockholm, November 20.
Yesterday was published our declaration of war against England. It orders the cessation of all intercourse, either by letter or otherwise, with that country. All English vessels found in Swedish ports, are ordered to be seized. The admission of colonial produce under any flag is prohibited; and search is ordered for English and colonial merchandise imported since April 24, 1810.
The Swedish government has prohibited the exportation of colonial merchandize from their ports to the rest of the continent; and have given orders that the whole mass of colonial merchandize, introduced into Sweden, under any flag, since the 24th of April, shall be declared by the proprietors, and put at the disposal of the king. [Official.]
Among the reasons for war with England, given in the Swedish manifesto, is the hope of hastening a maritime peace.
