Lithuania Deals Firmly With Men Convicted In Plot For Seizure
Kaunas, Lithuania, March 26 (AP) Four of the 126 Nazis placed on trial here on charges of conspiring to seize Memel for Germany were sentenced to death today. Ten others were sentenced to prison and 30 were acquitted.
The four condemned to die were convicted of murdering a fellow Nazi whom they were alleged to have suspected of betraying them.
Two of the defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The sentences ranged from eight to twelve years of penal servitude for confiscation of property.
Political circles feared an unfortunate effect on the German attitude toward the eastern security pact, which

(Reichsfuehrer Hitler was authoritatively said to have assured Great Britain his negotiations with British statesmen in Berlin yesterday that he was prepared to conclude a treaty of amity and friendship with Lithuania provided adequate provisions were made for protecting the rights of German minorities in Lithuania.)
One of those sentenced to prison was a former president of the Memel chamber.
