The old spirit and independent sentiments of Junius, are fast reviving in England, and Printers dare to publish them in London! Several political pieces, written in a masterly style, appear, depicting the real state of that country, and Europe, which we wish to find room for--the following is an extract from them:

"The fall of a kingdom, like that of a mountain flood, comes when we least expect it--Britains! beware; behold the dangers that surround you, and tremble for the consequences. Involved in a ruinous war; your armies flying before a victorious enemy; unassisted and betrayed by those who call themselves your allies; the public money prodigally lavished on Sardinian mercenaries in British pay; the satellites of Prussia supported by your revenues in the prosecution of a war, whose object is the destruction of millions, the slavery of a nation; the blood of Kosciuszko cries against us--add to this a ruined commerce at home; gazettes swelled with bankruptcies; a total loss of credit; a want of confidence in every department of state, and finally, an unprincipled ministry, who drive the nation down the strong tide of power, the floating wreck of their own avarice and ambition--Such, Britons! is the picture of your present state.

The idea of conquest, the dream of a disturbed mind, is fled. Self-defence is now our object, nor are we certain how that can be obtained. Let us not deceive ourselves, our dangers are great; the enemy we have provoked is formidable; our present contention involves the political existence of this country, and what resources are devised? What exertions are made on our side to stand the shock, to avoid or repel the blow! who is so weak and credulous as to be lulled to security, by the enfeebled efforts of a feeble divided administration? or what confidence can be placed in their armed dependants? Will military Harlequins, those Sunday heroes of the metropolis, will they, I ask you, withstand the energies, or resist the impetuous movements of a French Army, before whom the chosen bands of Austria are seen to fly, whom neither art nor nature can stop in their course? The plains of Fleurus can witness how, and what they act--Toulon too stands in eternal monument of their prowess and valour.

Now the question is, whether the nation is to be sacrificed to the minister, or the minister to the nation? He has no scruple to involve us all in an idle train of evils, and to let loose the demon of war, that he may hold one day longer the reins of government, to gratify his towering pride, to soothe his unbounded ambition--he has sluiced the purest veins of Britain, and with marble apathy beheld the miseries of his own creating. The charter of nations has wisely provided, that examples should be made of delinquents in every rank and station, according to the nature of their crimes. Where this primary law is neglected, there liberty cannot exist. A nation is free when the minister is amenable to justice, and enslaved, when punishment cannot reach him. Let public delinquents be brought to public justice? Careful to screen himself, and busy to accuse others, let him be accused in his turn."

Political pieces depict Britain's involvement in a ruinous war with armies fleeing a victorious enemy, betrayal by allies, lavish spending on Sardinian mercenaries and Prussian satellites, ruined commerce, bankruptcies, loss of credit, lack of confidence in state departments, and an unprincipled ministry driving the nation to ruin. The extract warns of great dangers from a formidable provoked enemy, questions resources and exertions against French forces victorious at Fleurus and Toulon, and calls for the minister to be held accountable to justice.
