He writes, "That after he had waited three Months for Convoy, he was at last put under Convoy of Capt. Innys in the Mermaid, who ungenteerously left him with several other Ships which could not sail so well as the Mermaid, in the Night between the 16th and 17th of Sept. about 150 Leagues to the Westward of the Lizard :-
That on the 29th in a Fog he met with a French Letter of Marque of 14 Guns 8 and 4 Pounders, 57 Men besides Passengers, which he engaged for 3 Hours and an half, with his 6 Guns, 12 Men and Boys, after which he was forced to submit to the Enemy, for Want of Close Quarters: They killed two of the Enemy, and wounded several others, three of which died. They were carried into Rochelle."
