The Taunton Barbecue collected together some 5000 Whigs of the old Bay State, and when such an army of the Freemen of Massachusetts get together, they are in the habit of doing up their work very completely. Seth Sprague, Jr., of Duxbury, was chosen President, with Joseph Grinnell, of New Bedford, and Seth Presbury, of Taunton, Vice Presidents. Speeches were made by Leverett Saltonstall. Barker Burnell. John P. Robinson. Col. Bullock. the President. and others. An ox was roasted, and in fine, everything was done that ought to have been done.
Among the resolutions we find the following:
Resolved, That the Whigs of Bristol County DO CORDIALLY APPROVE. AND NOW CONFIRM AND RATIFY. the nomination of the Whig Convention at Boston, in September last, of HENRY CLAY for President. and JOHN DAVIS for Vice President of the United States.
Seth Presbury, Joseph Grinnell and Samuel Bullock. were selected as the candidates for the State Senate from Bristol County. and Seth Sprague, Jr. was nominated for Congress in the place of N. B. Borden, who declines a re-election.
