PYTHIANS PREPARE FOR
LABOR DAY CELEBRATION
Seventeenth Annual Picnic To Be
Held on Monday, September
7, In Helbig's Grove

PROGRAM IS COMPLETED

An unusually large parade with four bands included in the procession, a continuous carnival of rides, shows, concessions, band concerts throughout the day and evening, awarding of an automobile, a huge fireworks display and brief addresses by men prominent in public and fraternal affairs, are some of the attractions being offered people who attend the seventeenth annual Labor Day picnic next Monday at Helbig's Grove, on Route 219, at the north edge of Oakland.

The affair is being held under the auspices of the local Knights of Pythias lodge and the committee in charge announced this morning that all arrangements had been completed for the entertainment of the large number of people expected. The picnic usually attracts five thousand people.

The week of September 7 to 12 will also be known as Homecoming Week for Garrett countians. The Keystone Attractions, consisting of rides, concessions and shows, will remain on the grounds for the entire week. There will be featured each day a free act by the carnival company.

Parade at 10 O'clock

The parade at ten o'clock will officially open the day's festivities. The procession will form on Alder and Oak streets and proceed from Oak to Third; Third to Alder, to Second; to picnic grounds. Dr. Henry W. McComas will be the grand marshall and he will be assisted by members of the parade committee, A. R. Martin, who is chairman; Harry Mahaffey, Emory Bolden and W. R. Browning.

There will be band concerts as follows: Crellin band from 12 o'clock noon to 1:30 p. m.; Queen Sylvia band, of Elkins, W. Va., from 2:00 to 3:30 p. m.; Mickey's Concert band of Loch Lynn from 4 to 5 p. m.; Gilbert-Brown Boys' Band of Oakland, from 7 to 9 p. m. The Queen Sylvia band has been selected to represent West Virginia at the Great Lakes Exposition at Cleveland, Ohio, and is known throughout this section.

Address of Welcome

Grover C. Stemple will deliver an address of welcome at 1:30 p. m., and grand lodge officers will be introduced by Walter W. Dawson at 3:30 o'clock.

Both luncheon and supper will be served on the picnic grounds.

An automobile will be awarded at ten p. m., followed at 10:30 by a display of fireworks.

Members of the committee stated there would be plenty of parking space, pure drinking water and everything for the convenience of those attending.

Grocery stores in Oakland will remain open until ten o'clock in the morning on Labor Day, while the dry goods and other stores will remain closed the entire day.
