I lay before the reader the succeeding letter, received yesterday through the medium of the post-office, as stated at the close; it is printed exactly as written. I have no reason to believe that it is an imposition.

Superscription. "Mr. James Cheatham Editor of the American Citizen, New-York."

"From Halifax, favored by Mr. Johnston,"

CONTENTS.--"Halifax, 1807."

"I am one of those unfortunate men who have been pressed on board British ships of war. I am an American born--a native of New-York, and although I never expect to get back again, till I naturally have a love for my country--therefore I take this opportunity of letting you know your danger. The British expect to have an army landed in your country about the middle of January next--They have 1200 lads from the age of 15 to that of 18 exercised daily--these unfortunate youths are to be sent along with the army.

I wish you would follow their example to the first instance and have your men even from 14 and upwards formed in an uniform body and taught their manual exercise. I am certain the American youth, if they have one spark of the fire of 76 within their bosoms will cheerfully come forward in support of their country. I must conclude by saying that if the narrows was fortified it would annoy the English greatly, for N. York is the first place they mean to land at. I wish, dear sir, you would publish this in your patriotick paper.

"Yours, &c. I. H***"

"Excuse my not signing my name, for if it was known I should certainly be hanged on the gallows."

"I send this by a young man who I suppose will drop it in the post office."
