Full Text
It has been lately asserted in the Northern Whig and repeated in other papers that General Moreau is on tour through the Northern States, accompanied by two secretaries or companions, with comments on the object of his voyage and insinuations of the basest description. We can state from undoubted authority that the General has not moved from his place at Morrisville, where he continued as late as Sunday last, 27th instant, and when, the only voyage he contemplated, was to Baltimore, for the purpose of taking his nephew home during the vacancy at the college. It is not to be expected that by such reports the general will be deterred from using the privilege he holds in common with other citizens, of moving from place to place whenever he may think proper, and much less that he will descend to notice the insinuations malice and ignorance may endeavour to attach to his steps; but for the honour of the country and of its hospitality, editors should be more cautious how they give currency to those vile and calumnious attacks. It is a fact, we are informed, that a French gentleman is now travelling in the Northern States, (with two Companions) who passes for General Moreau. It appears this Frenchman is a spy, and knowing that General Moreau is not a suspected character in this country, has assumed his name as a cover to his real object. We have seen a letter from General Moreau, dated at Morrisville, on Saturday last, to a friend in this city-Edit.

Main Argument
refutes assertions that general moreau is touring the northern states, confirming he remains at morrisville and plans only a trip to baltimore; attributes rumors to a french spy impersonating him and urges editors to be cautious with such calumnious reports.
