School Board Job Is
Glorified Housekeeping

Mrs. Kate Simpson, who is asking reelection to membership on the Spokane school board at the election to be held next Tuesday, March 13th, believes that it is always necessary to have at least one woman on the school board, as looking after the schools is a glorified form of housekeeping for the city.

It has fifty school buildings to be cared for and, well, you know about the touch of a woman's hand.

School matters as well as homes have the woman angle which no man is qualified to give.

MRS. KATE SIMPSON

"I learned things about our schools from Mrs. Simpson that I had never dreamed of, important things that I wonder we could have overlooked." R. J. Stephens, a former member of the board stated. "Mrs. Simpson devotes much more time to the work than any man would and accomplishes much that benefits the boys and girls of Spokane directly."

As long as she is the only woman candidate, Mrs. Simpson does not hesitate to say that she thinks she is the woman to be retained in office.

The reason that she wants to be elected this time is because the present school board has been hard at work on a constructive building program with two new junior high schools under way. It is a step in a school development program of which Mrs. Simpson is in thorough sympathy and one that is a step in the right direction for Spokane, she believes. The schools are in splendid condition, the bonded indebtedness having been materially reduced in the last five years.

Mrs. Simpson believes that there would be no hesitancy on the part of the voters for the mill levy if they realized all that must be done with the money.

When a school building is 40 years old it needs attention and we have five schools that are 40 years old and 6 or 7 that are more than 30 years old. Some of these schools need new roofs, recalcimine, some of them new floors and some must have auditoriums built into them.

Roland Campbell is also a candidate for reelection. Other candidates are J. D. Campbell and H. F. Coughlin.
