Field Goals Will Be Fewer

Field goals will be fewer in fall. The rule which stipulates that a team has an option of rushing the ball or kicking from the 25-yard line after a touchback or after a ball is sent over the goal line in a kickoff, puts a new aspect on the booting game.

Frequently a team, aided by a strong wind, will kick the ball over their opponent's goal line and the latter, handicapped by this same wind, will kick out such a short distance that by making a free catch the first team is in a position to easily kick a field goal. It was thought unfair to compel a team to kick under such circumstances, and so they will have the option of rushing the ball.

Then the value of the goal from the field has been reduced from 6 to 3.
