A. C. Minton, Lewiston, N. C., farmer is going to sell his peanuts direct to the consumer. Not satisfied with the present price of peanuts of from 3 to 4 cents, his family have been industriously making and packing ten pound bags of peanuts.
Minton plans to load a truck with peanuts from his farm. The peanuts will be packed in ten and five pound bags which he plans to carry to Richmond, Raleigh, and other large cities and peddle from house to house, charging $1.00 for the ten pound bags and 50 cents for the five pound bags.
C. O. Robinson, Elizabeth City's big pecan orchardist followed a similar plan a few years ago when the bottom fell out of the pecan market; he loaded every automobile in his possession with pecans and he and his salesmen peddled them successfully in Newport News, Petersburg, Richmond and other Virginia cities. Mr. Robinson now sells most of the nuts from his thousand acres of pecans in five lb. boxes to a growing mail order retail trade.
