The Brandywine Railroad.
We give in another column the first of a series of articles, designed to enlighten the public on the subject of the utility and benefits which will be derived from building the Brandywine Railroad. It will be followed by others, giving full information in reference to the projected road, which is to connect Wilmington with a wealthy portion of the surrounding counties of Pennsylvania. Every one who feels an interest in the commercial prosperity of our city should peruse these productions. They are from the pen of a gentleman intimately acquainted with the subject of which he treats, and deeply alive to the welfare of our community. It only requires a proper understanding of the matter to enlist the sympathies of the people of Wilmington in the work. Thousands of dollars are diverted from us, which otherwise would be expended in our midst, simply from a want of proper channels of communication. Coal, a much needed article in our workshops, is greatly enhanced in price on account of the immense cost of transportation from the mines. Every citizen is interested in the success of the Brandywine Railroad. The merchant, because it will increase his trade; the capitalist, because it affords him a good paying investment for his money; and the working classes, because it will secure to them many articles of domestic utility at prices far below those now asked. Let the articles of "Wilmington" be generally read.
