Why Deferred?
(From the Cincinnati Commercial-Tribune.)
The statement is made that all the complaints about bad beef grew out of the work of an experimenter, who had permission to send a few quarters of dressed beef on one of the transports. This experimental beef spoiled and was thrown overboard, it is said, perhaps after it was refused by soldiers. But why does this explanation come along at this late date? Why wasn't the matter made public at the very start? Why was there any concealment? It begins to look bad for those who had full knowledge of an experiment like this.
