Emigration from Canada.—The very great extent to which emigration to the United States, from Canada, continues to be prosecuted, warrants the belief that the confidence reposed by the inhabitants of those provinces in the long continuance of the present peaceable state of affairs in that quarter is both limited and slight. Indeed, should the tide of emigration continue for any considerable length of time to as great an extent as it has prevailed since the opening of navigation, her Majesty's colony will be reduced to a "beggarly account" of population, and before the end of the season the military will nearly outnumber the civil portion of the inhabitants. The Toronto Mirror likens the stream of families, with their possessions of horses, cattle and money, which is constantly pouring out of the Canadas into the States, to "a mighty flood;" and the accounts furnished by the papers published on both sides of the lines indicate that the comparison is not inapt.—At one gap (Lewiston) the average has been 1000 a week since the opening of the navigation. In one day, last week, upwards of 60 families arrived there, forming a noble and interesting group 350 individuals!—Within ten days preceding Friday last, 700 had entered Niagara county, in this state, at Lewistown alone; and on that day eleven families, with their goods, passed through Lewistown, on their way to the west. They had sold out their farms for $30,000, and with this money and their stock, implements, and furniture, were wending their way to the fertile lands beyond the great lakes. N. Y. Sun.
