Narrow Escape with Life.—As the Baltimore train of cars was coming to the depot, about six o'clock last evening, and when between D and E streets, an accident occurred to Mr. Richard Kelly. A man about fifty years of age, by which he narrowly escaped with his life. Captain William Brelling, the conductor of the train, drawn by engine No. 208, was running the cars at a moderate rate of speed, when Mr. William Smith, the fireman, noticed a man crossing the track, and immediately every effort was made to reverse the engine. The man did not, however, get properly out of the way before the engine came up, and, to save himself, he caught hold of the flag-pole on the engine, which threw him in such a manner as to cause the wheels of the engine to run over the boot soles of both feet and tear the boots completely from his feet. His nose was broken, and his right shoulder was slightly hurt in the fall, but otherwise he was unhurt. Mr. Smith, the fireman, got out of the window and ran along on the sideboard of the engine to catch and save him, but he had fallen before Mr. Smith could catch him. Officers Gates and Straub procured a conveyance and took Mr. Kelly to his home, on H street north, near Second street east, when a physician was called in and the nose of the unfortunate man attended to. Mr. Kelly was somewhat under spiritual influence at the time of the occurrence.
