By a letter from Plymouth we have the following account, viz. A few days ago arrived the Bostawen Indiaman from Bengal, with a detachment and the colours of his Majesty's 28th regiment, under the command of Major Richard Sherlock. It appears, since this battalion left England, which was in April 1759, to February 7, 1764, they buried 34 commissioned officers, one surgeon, four mates, and upwards of thirteen hundred men. On Tuesday the 8th instant Major Sherlock, of his Majesty's 28th regiment, delivered to the Earl of Halifax, one of his Majesty's secretaries of state; a letter directed for his Majesty in Persian characters, from Meer Jaffey Cawn, the present Nabob.
