New Scheme to Surmount the Grade to the Belmont County Hills.
A new scheme has been suggested for connecting the river front towns in Belmont county with points west on the National pike by motor line. The project originates among Bellaire people, and the route contemplated is an entirely new one. The plan is being talked over by some of the enterprising capitalists on the Ohio side, and the prospectus is considered entirely feasible.
The route talked of parallels the B. & O. road out McMechan's creek west of Bellaire to Neff's, a distance of four miles, and thence north by way of King's run to a point on the National road near Arrick's fruit farm at the top of the "Big Hill." From here the route would follow the line of the pike through St. Clairsville and Morristown. It is claimed that the grade afforded by this route is better than any heretofore suggested. The line could easily be connected with the B. B. & M. F. railway at Bellaire, and through cars be run to Wheeling. The scheme is only in the embryo stage at present, but it is not beyond the probable that something more substantial may develop at no far distant day. A proposition to build an electric railway along the National pike of Wheeling to bring in touch the populous country as far as Zanesville, and ultimately Columbus, has often been talked of, and far-seeing people believe it is only a question of time when the enterprise will see its fulfillment.

A new scheme proposed by Bellaire people for an electric motor line connecting river front towns in Belmont County to points west on the National Pike via a new route paralleling the B. & O. road to Neff's, then north to the National road near Arrick's fruit farm, through St. Clairsville and Morristown, offering a better grade to surmount the Belmont hills. It could connect to the B. B. & M. F. railway at Bellaire for through cars to Wheeling. The project is in early stages but feasible, with broader talks of an electric railway from Wheeling to Zanesville and Columbus.
