ANTHROPOLOGIST HITS RACIAL THEORIES

NEW YORK-(ANP)-Stating that the key to elimination of racial prejudice depends upon proper parental education Dr. John Gillin, University of North Carolina anthropologist, has blasted several racial myths in a pamphlet just published by the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Gillin asserts that racial attitudes are built into a person during the early years of life by a series of influences and incidents controlled and interpreted by the members of an individual's family and social group.

"These developments," he writes "often take place during an age period before the child has fully developed the use of language and critical experience and they are usually associated with basic emotions. Thus by the time he is an adult, even many an intellectually enlightened person is unable to explain to himself or to understand why he feels repelled by members of other so-called racial groups.

Gillin asserts because of the influence the parent has in the child's racial attitudes education should be aimed at parents.

Gillin points out that all human beings belong to one species and that the notion of "pure race" is a figment of the imagination. He states that people of one group have no inborn prejudice against the people of any other group and that there is no relationship between intelligence and physical types of man.
